This is an important message from Illinois American Water. We are beginning our annual maintenance program, which includes testing and flushing fire hydrants in addition to a temporary change in water treatment. This work is expected to begin Sunday, October 12 and will occur across the water system for 3 weeks. Flushing in your area will occur between the hours of 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. This work is part of our annual maintenance which supports continued water quality and fire protection. While Illinois American Water crews are working, customers may experience a slight drop in water pressure or discolored water for a short period of time. If your water is discolored, run the cold water taps only, at the lowest level of the house for about 3 to 5 minutes until the water runs clear. If discolored water occurs please refrain from doing laundry during that time. While we are completing this work, our water quality team will also be switching treatment to a form of chlorine known as “free chlorine,” which does not contain ammonia. This stronger disinfectant is typically used by water utilities when flushing water mains and fire hydrants. If you have a health care need that requires purified or filtered water, you should reach out to your healthcare provider with any questions .During the temporary treatment change, customers may experience a more noticeable chlorine taste or odor in their water. There is no reason for concern. This is due to the switch in chlorine types. If you are a landlord and water service is in your name, please inform your tenants so they are aware of this impact to their water service. In keeping with American Water’s focus on safety for both customers and employees, please do not approach our crews while they work. The weather is changing quickly, and as the leaves continue to fall, please remember the guidelines of burning!
On Private property, you may only burn leaves not less than 20 feet away from a building or structure, in a container (think burn barrel or a similar apparatus), must be constantly supervised by a person 18 years or older, no other garbage or materials may be included, and have a hose readily available in case those pesky leaves get loose (not more than 10 feet away). Please do -NOT- burn on any street, sidewalk, curb, or gutter that the village owns.
If you have any questions, always feel free to contact the Village Hall! (309-565-7411)

Good afternoon residents!
GFL is running a bit behind schedule today, but they are still coming for trash collection. Thank you for your patience!

Please see attached Press Release regarding our Electrical Aggregation.
Current aggregation ends with December 2025 meter reads.
New aggregation is estimated to be 28% less than current rate.
New program will be from December 2025 – May 2026. Too many unknowns in the market to extend further.
This is an opt-out program meaning that everyone is automatically enrolled and those who do not want to participate must opt out. The VOHC board understands the concerns with this approach, but it is the only way to participate, and the Board did not want to miss an opportunity to offer savings.
Opt-out instructions are included in the attached document.
We are committed to publishing actual savings as the program moves forward so people know if/how much they are saving. Doing so will also provide an opportunity to opt out later if savings do not materialize.
Residents should receive letters in mid-October.

This property will serve as the future site of the VOHC Public Works Department and will be funded in large part by the economic development created by the sale and expansion of the property purchased by Ergonomic Partners located at 12722 W Hanna Street. Additionally, the purchase has the added benefit of removing three abandoned structures improving the overall safety and appeal of the property.

Reminder: The work to extend the sidewalk North of 116 from Pekin Lane to McCallister is scheduled to begin today.
